Ok. That's what I figured. I did adjust post boil volume a little and honestly could have probably did more I've just always been weird about adding water to my wort after boil but I guess hitting my targets would be more important. Thanks guys this really helped
Well maybe I'm asking the wrong questions. Should I adjust my pre volume by adding more water to sparge or adjust my post volume to bring up to 5g or original gravity? Am I just not sparging enough or is my efficiency ****. Lol
Hey guys bare with me while I explain the problem and my situation. I'm really new to all-grain brewing so I'm trying to work out the kinks. I've brewed to batches on my system. Which is as follows:
Keggle/HLT
10g Rubbermaid mash tun (round bev cooler)
7.5g boil kettle
My question is basically...
Thanks. Yea that's answered my main concerns. The kegs I got for free so right their saved money I just need to purchase a sight glass and thermo fitting. I've been wanting a new burner and eventually get a pump. Doesn't make much sense to back step if I've already got most of the equipment.
Well that cost doesn't include the propane is be using. And really at first I wouldn't really need to buy a burner I can use the one I have. When I'm finished mashing in and collecting wort is could just put my kettle on the burner of course I'd have to lift 7 gallons of wort
Right now I have two kegs both drilled and cut. One already has a ball valve and I was going to eventually get sight glass and thermometer kit. Plus I've already got one cooler to mash in. I was planning on fly sparging and doing gravity fed for now. Just couldn't decide whether or not I'd be...
Hey, I'm currently an extract brewer and Im trying to move to all grain. Im trying to decide what would be the best route to go as far as buying equipment. Ive already purchased a 10gal round Igloo cooler for my mash tun. I was wondering if i should buy another cooler for my HLT (was gonna...

Well it was a brand new Carboy so bugs in that. Maybe something in the ball valve or funnel and screen. Probably my lines. But I scrubbed and sanitized those too.
I will say it was cold out so hot break was bad. I did worry about that, but that wouldn't contribute to the flavors though. I...
I'm not sure either way, but this think was rocking and rolling during fermentation. Maybe temps to high. I didn't notice any excessive cloudiness or anything, so that's why I was leaning away from contamination.
re-hydrated the yeast in one cup of water at 98 degrees 98-100 degrees. Covered with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 min.
Could it have been the fermenting temps or maybe oxygen getting to the beer. I used a universal carboy bung that I didnt really like but they were out of the size I need...
Did an extract kit to show my buddy how to brew. Wanted to do it quick so he could just see it done. anyways
