    don't like pilsners - why?

By Alt do you mean Altbier? Because I like that a lot (though, again, I've only tried two brands - it hasn't been available around here until recently)

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Ginger Ale - 3rd place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

ok, I think I'm going to try this. A few questions, to show my utter ignorance: 1. Is it ok to ferment this at a slightly warmer temperature (maybe at 70-71 degrees max)? With the heat on now where I live, I don't yet have any kind of temperature control system other than the ambient air...

    don't like pilsners - why?

hmm, ok, i wish some of these breweries would post their recipes.. ha. I can't think of many of them off the top of my head right now, but the main one that I've repeatedly tried to like is Steamwhistle - anyone had that? Another one I can think of off the top of my head is Mill St. pilsner...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Ginger Ale - 3rd place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

I've been thinking about trying to make a ginger beer. I'm trying to find a recipe that is basically a refreshing clean beer with a nice blast of ginger. For comparison purposes, I had Phillips ginger beer (http://phillipsbeer.com) once this summer and couldn't find it again but I loved it...

    SWMBO vs. Homebrew

I guess I'm in the minority but it was my idea to start home brewing and my husband is kind of just along for the ride (and to help with the heavy lifting). I'm the one who spends hours reading and researching this stuff. We both love beer so it's a good hobby for both of us, it's just more...

    don't like pilsners - why?

So, every pilsner I've tried (which is only a few, since I don't like them) has this strange (to me) aftertaste that I only encounter when I drink pilsner. I wish I could describe it better, but I think a passable description is a foamy malty coppery taste (coppery or old-coin but not...

    4 Day full fermentation???

I'm new to this homebrewing stuff too but I think they mean de-gas (to spell it a bit differently) - which I think means they are wondering if you made sure there were no bubbles in the sample you tested with the hydrometer. I've seen people spin it in the tube to get rid of bubbles. I'm not...

More questions about Festa Brew wc IPA

OK, thanks a lot for the reply, maybe in another week (or two) when we start thinking about testing the gravity again to see if we can bottle I'll get a different reading. It was hard to read, I used a really skinny tube to test it in and it was hard to keep it off the sides. I wonder about...

More questions about Festa Brew wc IPA

Ok, posted this at the end of a thread but deleted it from there and made a new thread. Slightly edited because I did a ton more research since I posted it. I'm brewing the Festa Brew West Coast IPA (first home brew ever). I've just had it in the primary fermenter for about 4 days now and...
