    Yeast starter Opinion

    We are making a 15 gallon batch on Sunday. This is an Ale about 1.051 OG. We typically make a starter with 650ml and 1 smack pack for the 5 gallon version. To increase to a 15 gallon batch and single step starter we are considering a starter using 1.95L (approx. 1,950ml) and 3 packs of yeast...

    Hey Princeofthepoint. That is awesome to hear. I think ours was just too cold, we are using a True brand fridge that was free. And we think the gauge and thermometer might be less that accurate. But now we are solid

    Good news, we got the beer active. And its smelling amazing.

    That's good news SKW. We were able to get a replacement temp regulator and upped the temp to 50, so I think we will be ok. Though it did sit at 40-46 for a few days. It will now remain constant.

    Has anyone fermented (primary) with saflager 34/70 @ 40f temp? Our fermenting chamber is picky and is around 40-43. We can move it, but we really don't want to since it is 15 lbs. I'm thinking it might be super slow starting.
