    String like things in IPA?

A few weeks ago I did an extract IPA kit from Northern Brewer and opened it up today to do the dry hops. There is some sort of stringy things in the beer that I haven't seen before. Any ideas? I am pretty good with cleanliness and sanitizing...and the beer tastes fine. Anyone know what this...

    acetaldehyde problem?

There is a definite green apple flavor but maybe there was some contamination...... I just started a wine this morning and I was about to blast it with a shot of O2 and there was a little black spot on my diffusion stone so there is a possibility there was a bug from there that got into the...

    acetaldehyde problem?

It actually tasted great at that 1 week mark..when it was 1.018

    acetaldehyde problem?

Yep....let it sit for an hour or so vs the 15 min it asked for though.

    acetaldehyde problem?

So I brewed a Caribous Slobber all grain kit from NB as my first brew with my grainfather. I am kind of at a loss as to what might have caused my off flavors. I brewed it right in accordance with the directions as far as mash and everything goes. Everything went well...used the counterflow...

    Low oxygen/fermentation

I added 1 ob of lactose in a 5 gallon batch but that was during the boil so my OG was including the lactose...so while I would expect lactose to keep the FG up a little I would think I can attenuate to lower than 4.4% abv. The first batch was only like 3.8%.

    Low oxygen/fermentation

well the first of 2 batches I used liquid yeast..made a starter and pitched the whole 2L starter. It was fermenting within 2 hours and was banging away for 2 days then stopped. My OG was low on that one..I am assuming since I pitched the whole 2L starter. I will decant for future batches. For...

    Low oxygen/fermentation

I have about 6 brews under my belt and the last couple I switched over to an O2 stone with oxygen to aerate. The last couple batches have had issues getting under 1.020 fg and I think it is due to me not running the oxygen long enough...20-30 seconds. So with my last batch..it is still in the...

    Regulator recommendations

Sounds like taprite it is. I used a kegco on my other one and it looked well built but after a while of using it my keg stopped dispensing. Tried cranking up the regulator and nothing. Then I tapped on the bottle pressure gage and it dropped from 700 to zero. Gage was stuck and I had no idea I...

    Regulator recommendations

I have recently finished my 6 tap Keezer build and still have my old 2 tap danby that I am going to sell but I only have 1 decent regulator. It was a kegco package deal thing but I am looking to add a multiple regular setup so that I can force carb on one port while still serving but all the...

Stuck fermentation (not a high OG beer)

Well...following up with this. I tried everything to get it the fg down. I ended up ruining it with beano and just dumping it. Did my next batch and the fg came out too high again. Turned out my refractometer was reading way off. Fg was fine with the hydrometer....so I am pretty sure the first...

Stuck fermentation (not a high OG beer)

I didn't check the expiration but I learned that lesson. I have 3 kegs now and this one so it will be a little bit until I brew my next one but I think my next step will to do a BIAB brew. It has been sitting at about 68-70 the entire time. I did taste it and it definitely tastes too sweet. I...

Stuck fermentation (not a high OG beer)

This is my 4th brew...it is a Honey Brown Ale from Brewers Best. Now I brewed it almost a month ago and went out of town for a few weeks. The OG was 1.041 and it is sitting at 1.018 right now. I used the dry years that came with the kit and pitched at about 66 degrees. I oxygenated the wort by...

    Finished...now....?

Well I probably did rush it by most standards. I did about a week in the primary and 2 weeks in the secondary (this was before I did more reading about just keeping basic ales in the primary)...It has been about a week since I kegged but I have mostly kept it kegged cold. If I pour a glass...

    Finished...now....?

So my first brew was a stout. It was a basic extract called beer. simply beer. It as pretty cut and dry but it tastes a little too hoppy. Now I think that is because when I poured everything in to the fermenter I also poured in some of the junk on the bottom..primarily the hops waste...
