    Are Group Buys DEAD

Unless they've raised their prices, they're still beating everyone else price-wise for a shipped sack of grain. And you are aware that NB was sold in 2019 and no longer owned by InBev as well, right? Not ordering from them because of that is kind of arbitrary anyway, unless you also avoid...

FotHB XVII: New Year, New Beer!

I'm going to have to drop out of this one, sorry guys. Had an equipment failure and some time scheduling issues set me back, so I only have two beers in the pipeline right now. Please invite me for the next round though!

12 Beers of Christmas 2022 Edition

Interesting. I'll have to see if I have any left to give another try. Though maybe you're just one of the folks who likes the smokiness of it anyhow :)

    What are you drinking now?

Found me some Pliny the Younger while visiting San Diego! It’s 5 o’clock somewhere

Bucket Blaster: Worth it or Gimmick?

I second that. I tried a cheap CIP ball that claimed to work at low flow rates, and the jet works much better.

Bucket Blaster: Worth it or Gimmick?

I've got a Bucket Blaster. Easy, turnkey solution. It's survived just fine for me for a couple of years thus far. It lets me do otherbrewing tasks while the cleaning is going, so it's great. It gets my plastic fermenters clean without any scrubbing (so no worries of scratching) and seems to get...

    Sour Lagers

Has anyone done a sour lager? It never occurred to me to do that, but I was just drinking one of my favorite local beers and realized it's a soured lager. Next time I brew a fruited kettle sour, I'm thinking about going the lager route. Anyone else done this before or have thoughts on it?

    Are Group Buys DEAD

I've ordered a few sacks from them. Also yeast. I don't understand how they can sell me a sack of grain shipped for so cheap and not lose money. The last post on the linked thread expresses concern about taking advantage of the free shipping and maybe it being a mistake on their part -- but in...

    Is this considered a Leak

Can get by with a pair of diagonal cutters if you don't want to buy an oetiker tool as well. Not that they're very expensive though.

    Stainless CFC Choices

As for yeast pitch temps, that isn't really going to happen for me in the summer given my tap water temperature. But I just chill as low as I reasonably can, and let glycol take it the rest of the way. But, you said there were benefits outside of the heat transfer, so I'm genuinely curious what...

    Stainless CFC Choices

What are the benefits of copper? My old copper IC gets gnarly looking, and then is shiny and bright when I pull it out, and I don't like all of that crap ending up in my beer. I don't really trust the copper where I can't inspect or manually clean it. And I feel better running hot PBW for...

What is the best all-around salt additions for Distilled water

Beer style plays a role in deciding water profile adjustments, namely your chloride to sulfate ratio. But if you think that's snake oil, then might as well just buy spring water and use that rather than adjusting distilled water.

    18% ABV IPA

Do you count eisbocks as straight fermentation? I believe those are usually kicked up with fractional freezing (rather than distillation). Those are the real big beers I've heard of, at least.
