    When to bottle...?

    Hello everyone! I finished oaking a 5g batch of Cherry Melomel last week. I added sorbate and K-meta to stabalize. I'm pretty sure its ready to bottle, but i wanted to get everyone's take on when the best time to bottle is after stabalization? Thanks

    I'm not looking to water down the final product. I don't want to sacrifice flavor and ALC content. I just want to get as many bottles as i can for my hard work. :D ... That's a good idea starting out with 6 gallons. Maybe I'll try that on my next batch.

    But what if I didn't use Sulfite, Sorbate, or anything? I just bottled it and started drinking it. :D ...would that effect how long its good for? That's why this time around I want to make sure i put the right stuff in there before i bottle it so that i can stash some bottles for a LONG time.

    I guess i should have read this thread before i posted my new one. :) I had a 5 gallon batch of Cherry Melomel that I made last year. I only have 2 bottles left, but how long will they last since i didn't use any K-meta before bottling? I didn't use any Sorbate for that matter either...

    1 Gallon Batches

    Hey everyone! I plan on making a series of 1 gallon fruit batches using the same methods as the J.A.O. recipe. My question is; is this smart? For the batches using blueberries, raspberries, etc.. should i rack after a few weeks or just ignore and wait for the fruit to drop like in the J.A.O.?

    Can't go wrong with J.A.O for a first batch. Its in the recipe section, easy to make, and tastes pretty darn good.

    capping or corking

    I think a lot of guys will say that corking is better and will keep your mead preserved better over time. Assuming you store it correctly. If you plan on just drinking each bottle until there gone, then capping would probably be fine. Especially if you plan on using smaller bottles as tasters.

    KenSchramm said it all. And it seems to be the general consensus. The more natural and pure the honey you buy is, the better your final product will be.
