    Does this look okay?

I brewed a 2.5gal IIPA, OG 1.079. A lot of hops were used & I used an entire SmackPack of American Ale II. I've never seen this white (I assume yeast) on the side before. I'm about 16 days in.

    Steep Efficiency?

I use an app called Brew Log on iPhone. Admittedly, I should use BeerSmith..but I don't. Regardless, when starting a recipe there's a "Steep Extract Efficiency" section which has always been set at 50%. I do extracts with steeped grains for aroma & color (not partial mash). When I enter my...

    Intentionally reactivate yeast in bottles

Absolutely, I've read smaller batches are fine oxygen-wise as long as they're not transferred - so that's the plan! Can't wait (but I will!)

    Internationally fermenting in bottles?

Bottles have been dumped, and a small piece of my soul died. Thank you guys for the help. Currently brewing a small batch Pale Ale to take the pain away.

    Internationally fermenting in bottles?

This is basically the response I feared/expected. You're right, 5-6%. OG: 1.04, FG: 1.03 haha. Blah! Fifty bucks down the drain :( tasting wasn't even necessary (I did, tho), I could just tell by the grav reading how it was gonna taste. question: if I left it in the carboy for additional...

    Internationally fermenting in bottles?

Alright guys, I feel pretty dumb on this one but it has to be asked. I believe my fermentation stopped short due to letting my temp drop too low for a day. Regardless, I racked to secondary & bottled. Now, obviously, I have a bunch of bottled Oatmeal Stouts coming in at a whopping 2% and...

    Worst Movies?

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but there's a podcast called How Did This Get Made? where they watch a "bad" movie and discuss the ins and outs at length. very funny. Follow Apt31 Brewing on Facebook!

    Chocolate Covered Strawberry Dunkelweizen

So I've decided to add 3lbs defrosted frozen strawberries in secondary, as well as 2oz extract at bottling. Hopefully will give me the best of both options. Last question: should i strain my wort before putting in primary? Only using 1oz hallertau, but I'll be adding cocoa powder at flameout...

    Chocolate Covered Strawberry Dunkelweizen

Thanks guys, appreciate the quick responses! So I'll probably go with the nibs since that seems to be the best route. Strawberries in secondary, any suggestion on the amount? I figure a couple pounds. Would strawberry extract be more effective? Follow Apt31 Brewing on Facebook!

    Chocolate Covered Strawberry Dunkelweizen

I put together a recipe for a chocolate & strawberry Dunkelweizen. Kind of a crazy concoction. Gonna be extract 5gal & I'd like to add real chocolate & real strawberries. Anyone have suggestions on how to add these two ingredients? I've heard frozen fruit during the boil works well. I was...
