    programming thermostar?

Currently fermenting my first batch with the new keezer. Accidentally threw away my instructions for the thermostar. I've got it set to 153 and it shoots up to 156 then cools to 151. Can you tighten this up? How do you program the parameters on it? EDIT: I'm measuring wort temperature...

    fermentation heaters

I'm assuming it will leave some space. You trust how the thermometer taped on the side reads?

    fermentation heaters

Planning on building a keezer for cooling, and using a electric jacket for warming my 6 gal glass carboy. Now, where would I place the thermometer for when I'm using the jacket to warm?

    fermentation second round

Folks, Day three of fermentation. Obvious fermentation activity had ceased. I ramped temperature up from 66 to 70 and shook the fermenter a little. 30 minutes later, the yeast woke up and went nuts. My blowoff tube is halfway full of krausen!!! Is this the goal of the technique for the...

    gravity calculator problem

Friends, For my most recent brew, I used this calculator http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/calculator/ and noticed something. When I change my sparge volume, there is no effect whatsoever on the target OG. Is there a more thorough calculator? Or are you just on your own for...

    measuring your volumes

Folks, I am having difficulty measuring my volumes accurately throughout my brew day. My brew kettle does not have markings for volume nor does my fermentor. I tried notching my mash paddle for each gallon but I notice discrepancies and it is not precise anyway. Does anyone have any...

    not moving your fermenter

Folks, Do you try to not move your fermenter at all after pitching and aerating? I ask because I am not able to bottle from the same location that I ferment. Gotta carry the sucker down the hall and plop it on a table. Does this make problems for clarity? Thoughts?

    First all grain brew

Completed my first all grain brew last night, and this is my first post here. Found a simple stout recipe in a recent brew advocate. Somehow managed to get a 74% efficiency. However, I screwed up the mash temp pretty bad. I checked only the top of the strike water as it heated which did...
