Method for clearing beer without cold crashing?

In my first batch (ever) of lager that's currently bottle conditioning, I used half a whirfloc tablet at 15 min during the boil and added two tsps of Biofine into the bottling bucket. When testing for gravity the whirfloc clearly (see what I did there?) helped, we'll see what the biofine does.

Bottle conditioning lager smell & temp

Fermentation was at two weeks. I pulled a little more from the fermenter last night and the sulfur smell was 97% gone so I went ahead and bottled. Sitting upstairs at room temp overnight helped smooth it out I think. Going to condition around 72F for two - three weeks then store in the basement...

Bottle conditioning lager smell & temp

Hey y'all - brewed a light American lager as my first, all-grain BIAB brew two weeks ago. Fermentation has definitely stopped but there's still a little bit of sulfur smell to it. Wondering if I should wait or if that'll all sort itself out in the bottles? I used the SafLager W-34/70 German...

    Mr Beer Kit Gone Wrong

Interesting! I'm a bit of a control freak, so the thought of going back to extracts, even after only my first all grain brew, gives me pause. I'll have to read some things.

I'm also okay with blaming the extract and not my beginner abilities lol

    Mr Beer Kit Gone Wrong

Makes you feel better, gets you hooked, ends up costing lots of money and time, it's all you can talk about with your friends and family...yep, checks all the boxes of a gateway drug.

    Mr Beer Kit Gone Wrong

The heat was off when the extract went in, but likely wasn't as mixed in as it should've been. That and the age of the extract is probably where the problem lies. Hopefully my first BIAB batch turns out okay so I can feel better about myself! lol

    Mr Beer Kit Gone Wrong

It's been sitting around for more than a year, but in the basement which stays pretty cool and IIRC was well before its best by date. There was more wort HME at the bottom of the kettle than I care to admit, but with the color being so dark already it's hard to tell if it was burnt. I don't...

    Mr Beer Kit Gone Wrong

Hey all - as I posted in my intro thread, I started a Mr Beer kit brew about 5 weeks ago. It's the Long Play IPA kit. It does not taste great and I'm trying to figure out why. After watching some YouTube videos, I decided to do a few things differently from the directions because, you know, when...

Hahaha seems like a sustainable ratio...for now

    New and ready to brew

Yep! We'll be tasting the kit IPA from the Mr Beer later this week. I threw in a different yeast and some extra Citra hops so we'll see if that helps bump up the flavor profile a bit.

    New and ready to brew

Hey y'all - new to homebrewing and happy to find this awesome resource of information. My wife got me a Mr Beer kit a couple years ago and brewed a very mediocre lager style beer with that. Fast forward to the pandemic and ordered a couple more kits for that. Brewed one for her, then she got...

yeast amount for small batch beer

Haven't read about any downsides to pitching more yeast. If anyone has experience or info about this, I'd love to hear it. I just pitched a whole yeast packet for a 2.5 gallon batch. The SafLager W 34/70 allows for that in the pitching rate specs, so check yours and see what it says.

    Yeast Amounts

From what I've been reading, I think you should use at least 2g, but that there's no real issue in using more. I just made a 2.5 gallon batch and pitched the whole 11.5 g yeast packet. My main concern is that the yeast has enough to eat and remains healthy.
