Post botteling wait period - I cheated, and wow!

But that's the rub - it carbed in 48 hours, no kidding! I think it has to do with the fact of it being wheat. I find, by the way, Hefe to be extremely rewarding in brewing. It is my preferred taste anyhow. I used to drink Franziskaner (now I don't - my stuff is simply even better and more...

Post botteling wait period - I cheated, and wow!

Hi all, So my second-to-last batch the recipe called for three weeks in the bottle with priming sugar for carbonization. After three days I could not help but open a bottle - I cheated! :D I got a full head on pouring, and the taste was terrific. This is basically a lighter Bavarian Hefe...

Just did my first full boil - Question about water lost in the boil

Deer Park Spring Water is all I brew with. So chlorine is not an issue. That batch turned out great. Now I made a new batch using anticipated boil-off, i.e. 5.6 gallons of water for a five gallon batch. It yielded exactly the results I wanted - five full gallons.

    Ha! Opened Pandora's Box!...

OK, so yesterday I went into a local brew store and saw a thermometer/hydrometer combo that had a colorful scale that seemed easier to read than the one I normally use. So I spent the $13. Today, using the very same sample of the word I boiled this morning, I got this from the new hydrometer...

Just did my first full boil - Question about water lost in the boil

I figured it would be better in the future to do 5.6 gallons in the boil. I have the room in the brew pot. It is good to know, though, how much water I will lose. I don't think adding the water back in, the way I did in this batch, is really detrimental. It is still a much better wort boil...

Just did my first full boil - Question about water lost in the boil

Hi, I just did my first full boil on wort. I have been very successful with partial boils, but now I decided to spring for a black star burner and a tall boy brewpot, doing 5 gallon boils. The boil lost about 0.5 to 0.6 gallons, so I added water back into the fermenter to get a full 5...

Type & quantity of hops - TureBrew Bavarian Hefe

This is interesting. The original recipe has 5 Hop bittering units, and the Alpha of the Liberty is 4.8%, suggesting that the original recipe used only one oz, not two, of Liberty. The new recipe does not list the AA% or the bittering units. All I know is that the first batch ended up being...

Type & quantity of hops - TureBrew Bavarian Hefe

Thank you to both of you for those replies. I was thinking that maybe also doubling the Hallertau maybe getting the beer closer to the first batch.

Type & quantity of hops - TureBrew Bavarian Hefe

Hi, I am new, and about to start my third batch of beer. I started with the TrueBrew Bavarian Hefeweizen, and the first batch I made turned out so well that I though it was the best beer I had ever tasted, as did my neighbor and my boss! I then brewed a second batch, and this batch was good...
