    Priming with maple syrup?

    So I've read a lot of the priming threads and am going to prime my Maple Porter with maple sugar. My question is: if I am using 3.5 oz of maple sugar for my 5 gallon batch, how much water should I use to boil it in prior to priming?

    As a newb as well (fourth batch) I'd say go for the one that has the most additions, it makes you pay attention to the process. My first brew had Minor details and my second even fewer, but my others have been a little more detailed and I found them to be way more fun and engaging.

    I have thought of the swamp cooler idea and it will be tough to get by my GF I think. Also, I am in Los Angeles and my apt gets in the 80's-90's during the hot days in summer. I mean it's March and I can't keep it below 70 in my closet.

    I live in an old building in southern California, and we don't have AC. Does anyone have any tips for keeping my beer cool while fermenting? It's a little high now 75 F, but it will get really hot soon here.

    I like this recipe and am planning on brewing it as soon as I bottle and rack my current batches. I am interested in adding some basil to it.
