    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I actually thought it was really interesting - it definitely seems useful to me. I didn't try viewing it on a small screen though

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I usually smoke salmon or very large trout, and I like to cut it up and brine it overnight (dry brine in fridge usually). I think Bailey Mountain's technique would work quite well, and seems like it would be a lot less prep. While out on a trip pan frying is a my favourite. Fast and keeps the...

So what do you seek in a cup?

I like glass because I like to see the beer. I like dimpled mugs, reminds me of beer in pubs from my youth. I also use pint glasses, and I have a few goblet style glasses for Belgianish beers. My close friend who is also a serious beer fan prefers mugs with some insulating properties that keep...

    Experimental Beer Spruce Tip Ale

This is really funny, I was walking my dog today and looking at everything budding and thinking "I ought to brew a spruce tip ale this spring" Now I have a recipe in front of me --- no excuses New growth on spruce will be another few weeks here on Vancouver Island

    Vevor Moonshine Still Giveaway!

I would love to win the still. I have homebrewed for years and have often wanted to try distilling. I was sending my wife the links to them when they were on sale recently and she vetoed it as a purchase for the time being. I enjoy the process of brewing and have been doing quite a bit of...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

I have several white gas stoves a coleman like that one, a coleman single burner that I used to use for hiking, and an ex- Canadian Military single burner that also works very well. They just keep rolling with a pump leather lube and a careful cleaning once in a while. I actually don't use them...

How are You Measuring Fermentation Temperature?

Not really the best analogy. For most cars the thermostat doesn't actually give you a measure of temperature just opens and closes coolant flow at a particular set temperature. The vast majority of cars actually give you an indication of coolant temperature not the oil temperature. But it is...

    Ingredient Price Increases

I agree the cost of brewing has gone up quite a bit, but so has the cost of beer in the store. In Canada (well BC and Manitoba where I live anyway) craft beer has gotten relatively more expensive than cheaper mass market beer as well (the cost difference between cheap beer and craft beer has...

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I agree that toppings under cheese is something you want to help people learn to avoid, but I think hating pineapple on pizza is a bit of a hipster affectation. (friendly joking comment) I like a good ham and pineapple pizza, particularly if the pineapple is carmelized a bit before it goes on...

    Never had a NEIPA

Statistically, population wide we get more conservative as we get older. I think I am less tolerant of people who I think are wrong and don't listen to other ideas, but I am still pretty tolerant compared to most (its my job). I was at the gym a while ago and the radio station DJ was saying this...

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I think cast iron would work well as a steel. The one issue would be if you were using a cast iron frying pan in the oven or on a gas grill like a stone or a steel it would likely be less convenient to get pies onto and off of. I also use cornmeal or semolina on the slide pretty generously to...

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

Yeastwood above says its way better than what you generally get at the grocery store. I have heard that from several people in different places and am ready to try it out. Obviously if you have tasty tomatoes and make it yourself its going to be pretty good. In Canada in the winter the fresh...

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I mostly make I guess Neapolitan style. I got to that from copying the pizza's we liked the best, especially my partner's favourites. I do use 00 flour, and i find it is well worth the extra cost. Its not super expensive as we have a couple brands in the grocery store. As far as the being hard...

    Why do people Quit brewing?

I really like beer and enjoy brewing. Just this weekend I had a conversation with a friend I hadn't seen for a while (at a brewery taproom) who was asking if I was still brewing. He figured lots of people probably gave it up as the number of breweries exploded where you could get interesting and...

    Illinois Chicagoland Area Homebrew Stores?

I am sorry to hear about Brew and Grow closing, I started homebrewing when I was in grad school in Chicago (2003-7) and I enjoyed going there for supplies, to talk brewing and see what was being brewed there. I wish I had known the clubs then, although it might have been harder to finish my degree.
