    sanitizer amount?

yeah, I was planning to get some star-san after my C-brite is gone, only because that seems to be what eveyone uses, and I figure not everyone can be wrong

    sanitizer amount?

yeah i know, i was hoping someone had weighed it already. I just used fluid ounces, which ended up being 1/4 cup. We figured since it said to mix ounces with gallons, they might have meant fluid ounces. It made more sense that they would use vol/vol than weight/vol. but yeah, I will need...

thanks a lot man! edit: wait, that's fluid ounces... I am trying to get an approximate conversion of the weight of an ounce to a volume...

    sanitizer amount?

I am using C-brite because that's what I have... the container says to use 2 oz for 2 1/2 gallons. What would that be in volume? I don't have a scale to weigh it, but I have plenty of measuring spoons....

    dry hopping

hey, for this recipe, my wife asked the home brew store guy for some hops that would be good for dry hopping an English IPA. He gave her an ounce of Cascade hops, but said to only use half of them. I was thinking about just tossing the whole package into my secondary and racking the beer on...

    What is Cold Crashing?

a local brew pub brewer said they cold crash to basically stop the fermenting process when the gravity gets right where they want it...

    Didn't remove sludge

that's fine. A secondary would be if you moved it to a 2nd fermentor for a couple weeks before you bottle. Some guys use them, some don't. If your beer tastes good, you did it right!

    Didn't remove sludge

i always put everything in my fermenter. And for measuring, i put it in my bucket first, to add the water to get to 5 gallons, then I add the yeast and stir it in, then i pour it into my carboy with a funnel. Does that sound ok to everyone? It's easier that way than stirring the yeast in...

    stupid yeast question

ok, so since this dry yeast seems so easy (no starter, easy to store until brewing day, etc) why do so many people use liquids? Is there a distinct advantage?

    stupid yeast question

hey, I read a lot on here about needing starters, and liquid yeast, etc... I have always just bought kits, and sprinkled the dry yeast packet over my wort, let it sit for 10 minutes, then stir it in, just like the instructions say. This sounds a lot more simple than what I have read, but it's...

    plastic primary?

in my last couple batches I got a lot of sediment in my bottles, I was hoping a secondary would take care of some of that. Also, I have never used one, so I thought I'd try it out.
