I looked again at the lid and it does in fact say "Best Before", not "EXP" or something similar.
Also I have now learned what "organoleptic" means, so that's a bonus.
I went ahead and tasted it and it tastes fine to me, so I'm inclined to give it a shot.
HI all, I was planning on making a batch of Edwort's Apfelwein oh...about late 2017 or so.
Then life happened and here we are today in 2021.
I had stored these bottles inside, they haven't been frozen or exposed to elements or anything but they are just very out of date. It's organic pure...
I'm bottling a small batch of Apfelwein ...or at least I planned on it this weekend...
I've made 3-4 batches in the past...and carbed up fine in flip tops w .75 cup corn sugar/5 gallon...
anyway... my question...though I have been planning on bottle carbing this all along...I stabilized it...
HAHAAHA!!!! right on the money Yooper! As long as my locks don't run dry I have been fine to leave my country wines to "bulk age" way longer than recipes call for (strawberry, pomegranate, apple, blueberry)
I think some of them have actually benefited from this (some of them sitting on oak...
use it for cooking or dump it. if it has an infection though of some type that made it taste as nasty as you describe, then cooking with it is also undesirable. try it to saute some mushrooms...cheap if it tastes bad.
I have another batch of Eds Apfelwein nearly ready to bottle...
I also have these little Martinellis Apple Juice 1.5 liter bottles....
would be nifty to bottle and carb a batch of AW in them..
is there a flip top thinger that might fit on these or some other type of cap which might work that...
I read somewhere that its desirable to use Sodium Metabisulphite when using Potassium Sorbate to stablize cider prior to bottling.....????....
What methods and chemicals is everyone else using to stabilize Edworts Apfelwein before bottling...???
-cheers!
Yes any info on this??? I would not blend it....I am interested to try the exact thing with that Traders blueberry juice....
