How Many Days Do You Cold Crash?

Most cold crash fridges or freezers are too low to siphon from anyway. Just move it slowly and gently. It won't stir up too much. I also use gelatin which compacts the yeast cake. On my work table, I tilt the fermenter, put the autosiphon at the low point resting on the bottom, then catch...

How Many Days Do You Cold Crash?

My brew day is 2- 10 gallon batches (so 20 gallons). After fermentation (and dry hop if applicable) I crash cool to 35 or so. Then I use one pack of gelatin in about 1 1/2 cup of water and divide equally between the fermenters and leave 2 days. I started with one pack in 5 gallons. Then tried...

    Show us your Kegerator

Sorry for the slow response. I saw a black friday 5 cf freezer on a walmart mailing for $99. That along with a temp controller (amazon inkbird) for $35. No collar necessary. 2 kegs and a co2 could sit in the freezer and you could serve with picnic taps. Wouldn't get much cheaper than that...

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Magic-Chef-6-9-cu-ft-Chest-Freezer-in-White-HMCF7W2/203445397 Or, this one with no collar at all. You could put a tower on the top, just like you would have to do with the mini that you are looking at. But seriously, a 2 by 6 and a skill saw and screwdriver can get...

Unless you have a need for that footprint, I would definitely go with a freezer. You can put on a collar in a couple of hours with very little woodworking skills. I found this in a 30 second search. Much more versatile...

    High fermentation temperature?

Hi, Any insight is appreciated. Brewed last week (2 - 10 gallon batches. One IPA and one Irish Red.) Cooled, areated and put into my ferm chamber (freezer set at 68). Left town for 2 days and came back to 85 degree wort (and bubbling very nicely, I might add, lol). Needless to say, my...

How can I save money on brew day?

Another cost saving area. Our Costco has propane refills for about $7.50 for an empty 20# tank. Also, they only charge you for what they put in, so you can bring partial tanks. My brew day is 2- 10 gallon batches. Water - I have a well for irrigation. Water is great for brewing. Yeast -...

    gelatin finings?

My brew day is 2-10 gallon batches. (one fermenter per 10 gallon batch) I use one pack of Knox gelatin with about 2 cups of water. Let it boil and cool to 170ish. Let the gelatin dissolve/bloom for about 20 minutes. I crash cool and put half (1 cup) in each of the 10 gallon fermenters...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/show-us-your-kegerator-29053/ This is probably a better link to see ideas. They make a black appliance paint that you could use. However, there are some really amazing and creative ideas to make more of an inside "furniture" type piece. It is a long...

Got the freezer free from a friend. Very quick build (3 hours or so). Nothing fancy. Can hold 8 pin lock or 10 kegs if 2 are ball locks. Freezer was not modified at all. Everything goes in and out through the "collar". The collar can slide back and forth (or come off completely) for easy...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Got an Ice Cream Display freezer for free. Did a quick and dirty conversion. This holds 8 pin lock corny's or 10 with a mix of pin and ball.

how do i know my starter is ready?

Not to hijack, but not seen this discussed anywhere. Logically thinking, it would seem that if there is enough O2 and nutrients, yeast will propagate exponentially until the environment becomes less than optimal. So, with that line of (clearly incorrect) thinking, it would seem that if you...
