    Electric Heating Element cleaning?

I soaked it in oven cleaner overnight and it did not phase it at all. Sprayed it every hour until I went to bed. I guess mechanically (wire brush, sandpaper?) cleaning it would be the only way. I did order a new element last week. Should be here Thursday.

    Electric Heating Element cleaning?

I have done 5 batches including a Pilsner and Kolsch, which I think would expose any smoky or ash flavors, and nobody in my home-brew club or guests have noticed any off flavors. It has been that way since I purchased it so all of my batches have been with that element. I'm going to try oven...

    Electric Heating Element cleaning?

Absolutely agree. Feel free to use the picture. It happened before I bought it but I think it was a stuck mash. The mash screen is a little concave too but neither the element or concave screen has caused issues. It has an interlock so the element won't work if the pump isn't on. I don't...

    Electric Heating Element cleaning?

Tried vinegar water solution yesterday but it didn’t do anything. Brewing with it right now, 3 step mash, no problems.

    Electric Heating Element cleaning?

I bought a used electric brewing system last year and have brewed several batches on it successfully. It has a RIMS element that has been scorched since I bought it but has not added any off flavors. Any recommendations on how to clean this? I have tried PBW, Barkeepers Friend, soaking in...

    Water Report Question

Got my water report back and my limited knowledge tells me this is a bit too hard. How would you treat this water for brewing? pH 8.0 Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est, ppm 211 Electrical Conductivity, mmho/cm 0.35 Cations / Anions, me/L / 3.84.1 ppm Sodium, Na 9 Potassium, K 2 Calcium, Ca 41.0...

    Brewbuilt Icemax 4 problem

Turns out one of my pumps may have died. Disconnecting that pump stopped the cycling and allowed me to switch that fermenter to another temp controller/pump and all is working. Anyone have any ideas on what kind of pump these use?

    Brewbuilt Icemax 4 problem

My 2 year old Icemax 4 is cycling all 4 temp controllers on and off every second or 2. The main glycol temp controller is not cycling. Any ideas of what is going on? The temp controllers seem to be clicking like a relay is tripping.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I won best of show and a Pro Am at Odell’s With my Northern English Brown. That beer also won 2nd best of show in a prior competition. I agree with you that judges tend to look at the wow factor in best of show and it takes a very mature judge panel to weed through and find an English beer as...

IceMaster Max 4 Drain Plug Leak

I had to replace some evaporated glycol/water last week and removed the drain plug to drain and replace the mixture and unbeknownst to me the almost clear gasket dropped into my bucket. I had a leak almost the same as yours. Thankfully I hadn’t tossed the bucket I drained everything to and...

New post a picture of your pint

My Pilsner brewed about 6 months ago. Delicious! Not as good as my previous batch which used tettnanger hops for bittering. This batch I used Magnum. Didn’t think bittering hops made much difference but this changed my mind.
