Just saw your post. Id say no. mold that I have encountered was easily identifiable. Looked dry and fuzzy. Taste it your tongue will tell you.
Anybody know why they discourage using dextrose?

Dextrose is not fermentable by yeast. It needs to be broken down into smaller sugars to be digestible.
