I'm a fairly experienced home brewer and a decent gardener, meaning that I have to try to grow hops, right? Problem is that I'm in the Tampa, FL area in growing zone 9 and all the sources say hop rhizomes are "hardy" in zones 3-8. I have 14' tall trellis frames, and am trying to grow 6 varietals - Centennial, Cascade, Crystal, Colombia, Sterling and Willamette. My first year, only two plants sprouted (late order, bad quality dead sticks), and nothing came back up the second year. Now trying again, All six are growing like crazy, with a drip watering system. My question is what about next year? Are hop rhizomes effectively annuals in zone 9? Do I have to replant every year or dig the rhizomes up in the fall and store in a refrigerator, then replant? Help! Scott
