I bought some gamma seal lids and some YVH buckets for grain storage. I realized once the buckets came in that the gamma seal lids will not work with these buckets. I don't want to and probably cant realistically return the YVH buckets without hassle and easily returned the gamma seal lids. So now I am on the search for a solution. A quick search did not turn up any types of orings or gaskets that I can use. I could toss some oxygen absorbers or silica gel desiccants inside the bucket and put some cling wrap on the bucket before I put the lid on? I think that may work... Maybe also put the grain in a plastic bag? Anyone have any other solutions or know of an airtight lid for these that I don't know about?

Cheers!

I store my bulk grains in vittles vaults or similar. My specialty grains are in plastic bags in regular buckets with snap on lids. They don't seem stale.

Dont have a solution for the YVH buckets but food grade buckets can be found at home depot lowes etc. gmma lids and those work great.

maybe use yvh to hold milled grain before mashing in? Curious to see if others have suggestions.

Yeah problem is I'm already committed since I bought 6 buckets and returning them is probably more trouble than it's worth. Honestly they seem to be pretty air tight. I went ahead and just bought some food grade 15 gallon storage bags and some oxygen absorbers and humidity absorbers for extra insurance. Probably overkill but I feel more warm and fuzzy with the extra insurance.

I was given several buckets like those, and quickly discovered they have a weird rim, making them incompatible with standard and Gamma lids. However, I found lots of other uses for them. I keep 2 for my mill, to collect crushed grain. Others I use for cleaning/sanitizing parts, and a few for storing gear.

Will ‘regular’ lids fit on the yvh buckets. Gamma is not needed but nice.
The buckets come with lids and they seem pretty airtight. When I push on them I don't hear any air. I still took the extra precautions of putting the grain in food storage bags with oxygen and moisture absorbers and wrapped it tight. It might take me a year or two to use the 165 lbs of grain is got so I wanted to be extra cautious.
