Now that it seems the hot weather has broken here in El Paso (at least this weekend), its time for me to think about brewing again. I want to do a Black Butte Porter clone because it's the SWMBO's favorite.
I have done a little research here by checking other posts and by going to the Deschutes Brewery website....so here is basic recipe that I have come up with.
5.50 Gal batch
Est OG: 1.058
Est FG: 1.018
SRM: 32.5
IBU: 30
75% efficiency
Grain Bill
10 lbs 2 row pale (Briess)
1 lb Chocolate Wheat (Weyermann)
3/4 lb Crystal 80 (Briess)
1/4 lb Carapils (Briess)
Hops
Galena
Cascade
Tettang
Yeast: White Labs WLP 002
Single Infusion @ 156
90 minute boil
The biggest difference is I have left out the 2 Chocolate malts that are in most recipes and replaced them with the Chocolate Wheat. I still have to to tweak this is Beer Smith.
Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.
