did not know where to put this, but since it is a new to me problem thought i would place it here. So i had a batch of beer come out of an ale pale (bucket) that tasted different from the other 5 gallons from a better bottle (not gag nasty horrid, just different in a sourish way). I used the ale pale again on the same yeast and the second beer came out undrinkable metallic. so my question is, was it a bad fermenter or a minor infection from poor cleaning that multiplied in the yeast? bottom line, is there a way to test the fermenter without wasting 5 gal of beer? Thanks, Chia

A long soak in a strong bleach and water solution will kill anything in the bucket. Other than that it's hard to troubleshoot without many more details.
