I was wondering what all could be used for a yeast starter container. I have a 1000 ml flask and some growlers but if I want to step it up and make a bigger one what can I use?

Can I use plastic - sanitized water jug?

Does it have to be a glass container? If so, I'm curious as to why

Anything else?

Any glass or strong plastic container will work that you can sanitize...I've seen all sorts.

I've used a large spaghetti sauce jar before...It worked great on my stirplate when I didn't want to use my large flask for a small amount of harvesting yeast. You can use growler or a glass juice jar, even beer bottles.

And nowadays most of us aren't using airlocks, just sanitized tin foil instead.

Use what you want as long as you can sanitize it.

I use a 1 liter and a 4 liter flask, but have used growlers before.

Cool, I wanted to start making starters bigger than my 1000 ml flask will hold and could only find gallon water jugs around that I wondered about. I'll go ahead and try it out!:rockin:
