i have these gallon jugs from walmart... theyre plastic, and are also BPA free...

do you think id be able to use it for my starters????
 
As long as you cool the wort down before transferring to the jug, it'll work. I highly recommend Erlenmeyer flasks though. So much easier to heat, cool and pitch in the same vessel. They aren't too expensive. My LHBS sells 5000ml ones for $30.
 
I have used gallon water jugs for my starters for years with great results. I now have a stirplate in which I am using E flasks.
