I often use nutrient in my starters (seems to make them work better/faster) and I'll also add nutrient to my higher OG brews. Basically, anything close to (or above) 1.065 gets nutrient in the boil. Even if that's just a package of cheap Cooper's or Munton's yeast tossed in to kill it and for the good yeast to feed upon. I've been going through my vial of Wyeast Beer Nutrient, which is getting low. How much to use is on the vial, as well as at what point of the boil to add it (believe it's the last 10-15 minutes).
I don't think adding yeast nutrient in either the starter or wort will do any harm. I'm sure that at some point (OG) it is more advisable, depending on who you ask. Since it's cheap enough stuff, and easy to use, I don't see a point in not using it. Maybe not for a brew with an OG of 1.030, but it shouldn't do any harm even there.
I guess I wasn't very clear. I was asking at what point in the starter/brewing process do you add the nutrients, i.e., before the boil, during the boil, after the cool down, etc.
In both responses you received they both said they add it in the last 10-15 minutes of the boil..
