Poking around online brew shop before placing order and wondering about all these yeast assistant additives. I've never used one. They're inexpensive enough that if they did anything it'd be worth trying. Anyone use them and feel they make a real difference? And if so what'd they do?

I use Wyeast Beer Nutrient just to make sure my beasties have all the things they need to have a party in my brew, Happy yeast = Good beer. That being said most things that I have read state that malt has all the nutrients that beer yeast need, so unless you are using huge amounts of adjuncts I don't think it is really needed. Like you said though, its cheap insurance. If you are doing cider or mead then you defiantly need nutrients to have a good ferment.
