Yeast lasts a really, REALLY Long Time

That blows my mind. I was really interested in paleontology while growing up, so that story was right up my alley. What I would give to get my hands on one of those beers so I could try to culture the yeast :D
 
So you are saying that my 6 month old washed yeast is probably still good then...
I can see the thread now... Instead of freezing your yeast strains, let a weevil eat them, then dunk the bug in resin, and store on your shelf. Good for 45 million years or more! :D
 
They way he talks about it, I'm almost certain they filter out the brewing yeast. He seems to understand that he has possession of something unique, I doubt the ancient yeast is in the bottles.
 
I also think it would be awesome to get some of this yeast :)

Probably not nearly as good as the yeast we have today that is bred for brewing, but interesting none the less.
