What is the more effective wort chiller - immersion with wort recirc, counterflow singl pass, or plate chiller?

Thanks to those who responded. I like the Whirlpool concept already. Im on it - again thanks. doc

Never saw the whirlpool until now... very cool idea, but you would have to have a recirculation pump correct? If you don't want to go that route and have warm water in your area, I have seen people create both a immersion chiller, and a pre-chiller. The pre-chiller is just a smaller version of the IC, which you set in a batch of icewater. The water from the hose goes through the pre-chiller first, cooling down the water, then goes to the main IC. This makes the cooling more effecient as well. However, I don't know if it would be better than the whirlpool. Just another option to consider.
