Usually when I make a starter using WLP002, the yeast starts to look real clumpy within 12 hours or so. I started harvesting yeast at the end of last year and made a starter using WLP002 I harvested in December- it was lighter than peanut butter and smelled fine when I pitched it into my starter wort. However, after 2 days it still has yet to clump up; it smells great, like normal fermentation, just not clumpy. Am I to assume all is well, or is there a problem?

Cheers!

I didn't (nor have I ever) use any yeast nutrient. The starter was about 2 liters for an ultimately 1.051 wort- expected 1.054, but for whatever lame reason I overshot my sparge addition by 1 gallon... meh. Despite the yeast not chunking up, the beer is bubbling away like crazy right now, barely 12 hours after pitching. Ahh...

I wash and reuse 002 quite regularly. Sometimes it doesn't look that clumpy. I used some last week and it looked just like normal yeast.
