I am getting into lagering and kegging. Got the fridge, but still need the external temperature controller/regulator.

I am thinking that the switching on and off might hurt the compressor in the fridge. Is that the case?

Do the regulator sense when the fridge is off (by the amount of current it is drawing) and shut off at "good" intervals, ie. when the compressor is not running?

Maybe I am being paranoid...

most folks use the temp reg for freezers, you might not need one for a fridge. Some temp reg like the digital johnson have configurable parameters. Such as setpoint and minimum time before it turns the fridge on again.

I think it actually extends the life of the fridge/freezer as most of us use a set point that isnt as close as the manufacturers so the compressor cycles less often.
