Wild Yeast In mead?

You can try and try until you find one that suits mead making. I would say your best bet is to buy the yeast. Mead takes a while to age so you would need to make several batches with your wild yeast, wait for them to age, see what characteristics you get.
 
And what exactly does mead smell like. I made a starter with 4184 and the starter smells really nasty.
