Why are chrome plated brass towers cheaper than plain brass towers?

Would it be possible to remove the chrome, and/or will it age away nicely?

Maybe not much competition in the brass tower business? Chrome plated brass is pretty much ubiquitous.

The chrome won't fade simply exposed to air. You'd have to find either a mechanical or maybe chemical way to end up with a chrome-free tower...

The chrome towers are chrome plated steel. Not brass. Brass is expensive, so it cost more.
