Who has had laser eye surgery?

I have had it done twice now (came with a lifetime guarantee) my vision just degraded over about 5 years. I am happy I got it done but I have always had a bit of night vision trouble since. Nothing too serious but noticeable. I would not want to go back to glasses ever. I'm not sure what the costs were as the army paid for it.

I would do it. I want to, but can't. It all boils down to a few things.

- How much do you hate contacts and glasses?
- Is your current prescription steady (not changing from year to year)?
- What kinds of inconveniences are you willing to suffer through? recovery time, possible halos
- How much do you really hate contacts and glasses? I mean, they suck. They really suck and are uncomfortable. And a hassle. Alright, back to researching the internal contacts. I freaking hate my glasses.

I had Lasik back in 2001. I don't regret it one bit. My eye sight was pretty bad. Couldn't see the speedometer in the car without glasses. So going on 13 years later, I still have 20/20 vision. I don't need reading glasses, but I'm sure that will come. To quote my optometrist " Everybody will someday need reading glasses. Some just die before that time comes." If you can afford it. Go for it. For more than half my life I wore thick glasses. The day after the surgery I went sun glass shopping for the first time. Still one of the most memorable moments in my life. :mug:

I had lasik about 2 years ago, and it was the best decision I have ever made. I was so tired of glasses and couldn't wear contacts, I would just blink them right out.

The upside is no glasses, and to anyone who wears glasses, that is fantastic. The downside (for me anyway) is dry eyes. My eyes are my first indication that I am dehydrated. They get itchy and red (for other reasons besides living in Colorado) when I am dehydrated or have been staring at the computer for a long time. I also see halo's around lights at night. But, if you ask me, I will take those side-effects over glasses any day.

I had PRK done about ten years ago. At the time I was wearing bifocals and would take my glasses off entirely to see thing close up and do things like threading a needle. After the surgery it took quite a while, but my vision settled out at 20-15. It is fantastic to not need glasses and be able to see things in the distance clearly.

The only drawback is that after the surgery, my near vision went to ****. I am now crippled if I don't have a pair of readers handy.

I drove boats for a living so it was worth it for me, but if you do a lot of close up, fine work, you may want to rethink it. I am now almost as dependent on my readers as I was on my regular glasses prior to having it done.

I thought I was gonna have laser surgery last week for a torn retina but it turned out to just be a vein blocked by a blood clot, and there's nothing that needed to be done about it.
I'd love to have lasik or some other corrective surgery, but everytime I talk myself into it I use the money for something more important.
Having now worn glasses for 50 years I'd love to ditch them and be able to buy some cool shades-maybe next year.

Hmmm...I basically read for a living.

I had iLasik done 6 or 7 years ago. My vision was 20/1200; to read without lenses, I'd have to close one eye and hold the material about two inches from my eye.
After the procedure, I had 20/20 vision, and like Hang Glider said, I do sometimes miss my super magnifying eyes!
I don't need reading glasses (I'm 47), but over the past couple of years, my distance vision is getting worse again. I'll just get some glasses to wear for driving, TV watching, etc. for now, but if it gets so bad that I need lenses all the time, I'll probably have the LASIK again.
