Whirlfloc and attenuation.

Can using Whirlfloc make a difference in the final gravity?

Since using Whirlfloc I don't get the same attenuation as when I didn't use it.

I use one tablet per 5 gal.

No, it's a benign agent that simply causes proteins to clump in the boil kettle. It has no effect on attenuation.

It is my understanding that whirlfloc doesn't affect gravity.

Interesting question.....It shouldn't have ANY effect on gravity! However, I have noticed that on the few brews that I actually HAVE used Whirfloc on, did indeed suffer from decreased gravity. Using the same process and recipe. Hmmm.......How could it have any effect on gravity???
