Hi,

I am new to the homebrew community. Have brewed a few times. First time was a light ale, and recently I have been making stouts. My question is, What is a good online source to get supplies? I do not live next to a homebrew shop so that isn't an option for me. There are many places out there. I have had a bad experience at some of them, and was wondering what some people think the best is. I have been ordering from Morebeer, so far that's working well.

Thanks guys.

I personally like northernbrewer.com but I usually wait till they have a random deal or sale that I like. I have ordered kits, and gear from there and everything has been very good.

Figure out what you need and order everything that you can store without going stale from more beer or another outfit that will give you cheap shipping.

I get all my hops from Nico brew. I order a lot at once 2 keep my cost down because they have flat rate shipping. I have never been dissatisfied with the quality of the hops from them. I have however, been blown away by their level of customer service.

I can't give you a particular recommendation on grains because I get mine from my local homebrew store. I order 400 lbs at a time to get a 20% discount

Also check the boards for bulk buys. If your local homebrew club doesn't them get them into it.

I'm a little off topic, but try to find a home brew club. You can buy in bulk with them. Even if you have to drive a 100 miles it may be worth the trip.

Honestly, there aren't many that are bad. Northern Brewer, Midwest Supplies, MoreBeer, Austin Homebrew, Rebel Brewer, William's Brewing... all of them are excellent.

Many of them have a signature ingredient that's hard to find elsewhere, so I usually order based on which one I need.

I have used most of the mentioned vendors, but I have gone a little different route. First, I have chosen to get my grain and most consumable supplies from my local home brew store, Chicago Brew Werks (chicagobrewwerks.com). Their prices are very reasonable and I really like the community atmosphere around the store.

For hops, I try to buy packages of 1 lb whole hops. My favorite hop vendor is Hops Direct (hopsdirect.com).

For mail-order grain and supplies, my favorite vendor has been Bell's Brewery (bellsbeer.com). Their general store has some of the best prices around. For example, 1lb Citra whole hops at $19.95. And their shipping speed and customer service will make your head spin it is so good. I usually go to Bell's if Hops Direct doesn't have what I am looking for.

Wow,
Thanks everyone for all the responses. I did not expect to receive so many. I have not heard of some of these shops. Will have to check them out. Thanks!

After some searching I decided to test the waters with thebrewersunion.com. Will let you know if it worked out for me.
