sorry, i don't really have an answer for your question, but i can't help but chuckle when someone of your experience asks a question. let's face it, if you don't have an answer then we probably won't find one!! it's sort of like stephen hawking asking for tips on quantum physics!!
 
It can be used for brewing if you can get it, I think you know that. I don't think it is very common.
Perhaps in Germany or other parts of mainland Europe it may be available. I haven't heard about that since I've read it in Noonans New Brewing Lager Beer. He said it is grown in northern Europe, where it is prized for its hardiness in the cold climate.
 
As I understand it, high protein levels and low crop yields make 4-row unattractive. I know the barley breeding programs at Oregon State don't work with 4-row at all.
