Behind the zion curtain
topic says it all. Last year when I was here, I went to crescent city brewing co. Big mistake. I've never had such a buttery märzen or overly-estery amber.

I dig what Abita is doing, but I think that's a bit far away to walk. I'm staying in the French Quarter, and I can't handle another slurricane....soooooo, gentlemen (and women), where can I get a good, tasty, and preferrably local brew around here? Somebody must utilize temp control, right?

:mug:

I think the word in New Orleans is

Around Here, It's Dixie Beer

LOL. I heard the brewery was in serious trouble after the Hurricane. I hope they get it back in action.

You can keep an eye out for NOLA Brewing Brown and Blond ales. They just started selling to the public a few months ago and are starting to show up all over the city. The web site has a list of locations.

NOLA Brewing - New Orleans Lager & Ale - Craft brewing New Orleans beer

There is also the Zea grill on St. Charles and a few other locations in the metro area. They have their own branded brews and the food is great. The beer is contract brewed by Heiner Brau and northshore micro. Keep an eye out for their Kolsch and Maerzen. Thier website also has a locator.

I don't know about local other than Abita, but dba on Frenchmen St. has a pretty huge selection of quality beers from all over. Plus, there's about 6 or 7 bars within a couple of blocks that usually have some good music going. Much more fun than Bourbon St. if you're not a college kid looking to get obliterated on hurricanes.

I guess technically I'm 11 days past being a college kid looking to get obliterated on hurricanes. DBA had a $10 cover, and even coming from Utah that's a bit steep. I did run into a few homebrewers tonight, crazy enough, that took me around and pointed me in the right direction. They'd never heard of HBT before so I passed it on.

To whoever it was that I met up with in Jimbeaux's on Frenchman tonight, :mug: to you!

Check out the Avenue Pub on St. Charles... get off the streetcar on the Polymnia stop. I was there last weekend and had my fill of Racer 5 on draft, and they had a great selection of other styles as well. The bartenders are friendly, and explained that each draft travels less than a foot to the tap and lines are cleaned weekly. They really seem to take pride in the product they serve there. Highly recommended!!!

Oh yeah, the Avenue Pub, that is a great place. Spend quite a bit of time and drank quite a bit of beer there. Had my first Blue Moon there, first craft beer other than Abita. I wonder if they still have those mini-tacos, those are good.

Great Sports bar (not much on right now though).

Yeah, I was just there on Saturday and they had some good stuff. Everything in the fridge is organized by where it's made and the prices weren't too bad from what I recall.

IME, Abita is served at most places in the Quarter. Many have it on draft, especially the Amber. (Which is mighty tasty for a malty beer.)

I'll be sure to stop at these other places when I go there next month. I had trouble finding non-local good beer.

Please....stay away from Dixie Beer. That swill just needs to die alone in a dark, dank warehouse. The only time I thought it was even palatable was during a crawfish boil a few years ago after I we already polished off a half case of a local weizen and helped put a rather large dent in a bottle of Jamison. Those Mobilians know how to party!
