When to add spices

I have three batches of hard cider going. The first batch is ready for bottling. The second batch is in secondary fermentation. The third batch is in primary fermentation. At what stage do I add the cloves and cinnamon sticks?

Personally, I wouldn't add them at all. But if you must, the secondary is when.
