What's wrong with this picture of hops?

I was looking for info on growing hops, and ran into this picture. It's caption reads, "A desert farm growing hops directly in the sand for an Egyptian beer company."

Someone is a mite confused, and I don't think it's me.

Don't you see the hops? They're growing inside of that mess.

Looks a little too robust to be wheat. I'm assuming it's barley, if they got the part right about growing it for a local brewery. But I've never seen barley outside a store, so I'm just guessing.
