Made a starter with some DME and dried wild hops. Left it out overnight on a cool spring evening with cheesecloth to keep pests out. Then I sealed it with an airlock for a couple of months. Now smells pretty fantastic but it looks... YUCK! This is my first time trying this. Is this just business as usual or did I get some nasty mold or something? Will it clean up over time? If something is wrong, can it be saved?

Cheers :mug:

Why leave a starter for months? We're you trying to collect wild yeast?

To clarify... it was out for one night. Then it was sealed with an airlock for 2 months. Looks like my thoughts are confirmed- it got moldy and needs to be disposed. Any tips on how to prevent mold the next time?

tips? yep... don't leave a starter for months. hours, a couple days, ok... not months, or even weeks
