I went to the brew store looking to buy stuff for an extract version of Bee Cave Pale Ale but found that they didn't have Munich extract. Instead I got Amber. They also were low on Cascade hops, so I got the last of them and some Saaz. I also got one pound of crushed Crystal 10.

So here's my final bill:

5 Gallon Batch

3.3 pounds of Light LME
3.3 pounds of Amber LME
1 Pound of Crystal 10
1 oz of Saaz Pellets
1 oz of Cascade Pellets
Nottingham Yeast

So, after everything is said and done and fermented, what will the beer in fermenter be? Any specific style?

Also, with these different types of hops, and half an ounce less, can you all think of any timing changes I should make to my additions? Also, I calculated my ABV out to about 5.8 percent, does this sound correct?

looks like a good APA to me:

It'll be beer, my friend, and it'll be Good, because it's yours! Seriously, it looks like American Amber Ale, if I had to peg it to a style. AAA differs from American Pale Ale in that AAA has a more pronounced Crystal/Caramel malt character than APA. And since you're using Amber extract - which I can guarantee is mashed with a proportion of Crystal malt.

How much of what hops to use when depends on the alpha acids present in them. Let me know that info, and I'll try to be of further assistance.

Thanks for the tips and info. Just trying to get an idea as to what it would be for the label.

BobNQ3X, the acids in the Czech Saaz are 3.0% and the acids in the Cascade are 5.9%.

Thanks.

Okay! Looks like you've got a version of American Pale Ale. I recommend boiling the Cascades for 60 minutes, adding the Saaz with 5 minutes left in the boil. If you add the Amber LME late - with ten minutes left in the boil - you should get ~30 IBU in a 3-gallon boil from the Cascades.

If you can get some more hops, that'd be great, but you're going to make a good beer with what you've got. Brew on!

Bob
