It's a very low cost, low equipment investment form of AG brewing. You could get into AG for under $10.:ban:

And it can be much faster than conventional all grain since you don't have to vorlauf or worry about a stuck sparge. I can do a batch in half the time the conventional all grain brewers talk about.
