In a bit of a rush I threw this recipe together when I realized that I would have time to brew the other day. I looked at what I had on hand and popped this out in Beersmith. Mash was 153 and I rehydrated the yeast per manufacturers instruction. Yeast was pumping out co2 pretty good about 10 hours after pitching. The one thing I'm unsure about is the Brown malt. Haven't used it before and I'm not real sure why I even had it on hand.

5 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 39.15 %
4 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 31.32 %
1 lbs 1.3 oz Brown Malt (65.0 SRM) Grain 8.46 %
1 lbs 1.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt-150 (150.0 SRM) Grain 8.34 %
1 lbs White Wheat Malt (2.4 SRM) Grain 7.83 %
8.0 oz Wheat, Flaked (1.6 SRM) Grain 3.92 %
2.0 oz Black Barley (Stout) (500.0 SRM) Grain 0.98 %
0.75 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00 %] (60 min) (First Wort Hop) Hops 16.8 IBU
1.25 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00 %] (10 min) Hops 5.1 IBU
1.00 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00 %] (5 min) Hops 3.4 IBU
1.00 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00 %] (5 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -

Measured Original Gravity: 1.052 SG
Est Final Gravity: 1.014
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 5.02 %
Bitterness: 25.3 IBU
Est Color: 24.2 SRM

What can you expect? Beer.

Your color range and OG suggest a barley wine, but I'm not sure you have quite enough hops for that. It's probably going to be a bit on the sweeter side. You might consider giving it extended aging time, perhaps dryhopped with 2-3 oz Goldings.

I have a feeling you are going to really like it.

The OG is 40 points from a barley wine.

My bad -- you are absolutely right. I read your post during my first cup of coffee this morning, and thought the OG was 1.114, when in fact your FG was 1.014.:tank:

An ESB is more like it, but I still suspect not hoppy enough.
