I don't think that's a function of the number of legs, however.

Brew on :mug:
True, not unstable. But compared to a 4-legged platform, arguably less stable. Of my 3 three legged fermenters (SSBT) I have tipped one, but only once. But I also secure them to a 30” high work platform with bungie chords.

I own these. I dont' think you will get a good seal on them for fermenting. They sort of clip at two points, but not all the way around. I store grain in mine.

But if you want a complete seal. Lowes sells food grade two gallon buckets for $4.48 and the lid is $2.88. They completely seal, I have added a grommet and air lock and fermented pickles in them.
These buckets from my Lowe’s don’t last very long, I’ve ripped the bucket rim off removing the lid on two that weren’t very old. ☹️

Have up on the brew controller and am going a different tack.

A mate to one of my more rare Boulevard Brewing glasses arrived in its original plastic wrap - which I immediately removed because I'm not just collecting these glasses, I'm enjoying using them!

[edit] Here's my updated "family portrait". I know there are two full size stemmed tulip or schooner models I don't have, including their "Farmhouse" glass, and a square stemmed "Diamond" model. I have a line on the former but have never seen the latter in the wild...

Cheers!

Not super exciting - but I love stainless steel for fermenting.

Received 2 SS brew buckets on a super black Friday sale. Finally arrived yesterday.

The old northern brewing buckets will now go to my nephew who has taken an interest in home brewing. He gave me an awesome Christmas gift - a flight kit for tasting.

I'm kind of a control freak and a tinkerer, ( being a machinist and mechanic might have a bearing in it)Brewing is a hobby, my beer will never be judged in a competition, or sold in a market, if it tastes good, and others think it tastes good, that's all I want out of the hobby, back to the control freak part, I do endeavor to control every aspect (with in reason) of my brew day.Recenty I bought a monster 3 G grain mill to grind my own grain to control yet another aspect of my brew day, I used a hand held tachometer to mark my speeds on the variable speed motor, but the tinkerer in my wanted more, so I found a reasonable digital read out, it uses a hall generator and a magnet, it was built for lathes and drill presses, it will fill the bill, tomorrow I'll be installing it on my mill stand..

Not worth a picture, but was able to brew today (needed yeast).
6 packs of Nottingham
6 packs of saf us-05
25 lb of pale ale unmilled.
Brewed 10 gal batch -
English Brown Ale
One 5 gal ferm Nottingham
And other 5 gal us-05

Still waiting on my black Friday Spike mill order. Soon come. Good thing because my El cheapo, uni-roller unit is getting wobbly.

No pics here, either, but received my order from Brew Hardware last night. 10# Maris Otter, some roasted grains, flaked oats, a pound of Magnum, a bottle of raspberry flavoring, and some packets of US-05. Topping up my supplies for a few upcoming brews.
My next beer after the dark mild this weekend is going to be a clone of your Smokestack Lightning, with your permission. 50 / 50 wheat malt + smoked, Saaz for bittering, haven't figured out the yeast yet.

Hey, go for it! I used US-05, which probably isn't very authentic, but it's not a yeast-driven beer, anyway. Just use anything fairly neutral.

BTW, my recipe was nearly 100% smoked wheat (just 2 or 3% acid malt for pH adjustment). I didn't think the smoke was overwhelming at all. That malt is not as smoky as beechwood smoked barley. The brewery used maybe 75-80% smoked wheat and the rest pilsner, to avoid a stuck mash, but you could go 100% at the homebrew level. Don't forget the rice hulls!

Another thing: the traditional Grodziskie is highly carbed, like 3+ volumes. The brewery had to dial back to around 2.6 or so to limit foaming problems at the taps.

Thank you. It's highly likely to end up weird, with Maris, smoked wheat, Saaz, and Nottingham. If so, I will post nothing about it

A totally awesome porch bomb from @Section1 . I’ve been sick all week and this sure brightened my day when I went outside to see what all the commotion was about.
Thank you sir!!!

I really hope you enjoy the Homebrew and the others too. I know I did. Get well soon!

Two new 2.5 gal. ball-lock kegs.
I ordered the TWCraft twin pack from the big river.
The manufacturer stamp says "KegMax". Quality of welds look very good. Both were holding a slight pressure.
So far I am very pleased with the purchase. Triple box packing.

An 8 oz packet of Go Ferm, for rehydrating dry yeast. I have been using Go Ferm Protect Evolution for some time, with good results. I found this on Amazon, it's different--no urea. Derived from dead yeast cells. You use the same amount, 1.25g/g of dry yeast. And this is a lot cheaper than Protect Evolution. I'll give it a try.

An order from Buckeye Hydro arrived: two replacement pre-filter elements, o-ring lube, and a housing wrench to replace the one I lost.

Those pre-filters were overdue for replacing. RO membrane still good, but will eventually need replacing. My output water is still 3ppm TDS with ~250ppm input, flow is good.

Ordered the Spike Mill on black Friday (Nov. 2024)... And today, it was just like Christmas . I have been wanting one of these bad boys for almost a year...
My old grain mill, a one roller cheapo on the cheap model was virtually dead, so just in time. Tell ya what. This machine is solid. Expecting it to last a lifetime.

A "suspicious" looking shipment of hops including Citra, Mosaic, Ariana, Elixir, Nelson Sauvin, HBC 522, Meridian, and Motueka. My pound of Nelson came in not so airtight so I broke out the vacuum sealer and went to work while the kids watched Wicked. My machine isn't very quiet so I got an earful right around "Popular".

Excited to build recipes around these for the foreseeable future.

Don't want to bump the thread too much but forgot to mention today I got my NB Blackberry Milkshake IPA kit (which I'm tweaking to try and put a dent in my 8 pounds of hops I just bought so my wife can have the shelf back in the freezer eventually, I'm thinking meridian), my first hop spider, my first spin plate for starters, and a shirt from the Omega merch shop! Tomorrow I'm expecting an aeration wand, brewing salts, scale and a few craft books! It's like second Christmas at my house right now! My beautiful loving spouse is ready to tactically aquire my debit card but it's worth it.

My loving spouse agreed to the purchase of an extra fridge to help avoid these situations. I've pretty much got the freezer for hops, while she has the fridge section for things like curing bacon. I find it difficult to complain about this situation!

MoreBeer order for some various upcoming brews..
10lb Briess 2-row
5lb Weyermann floor malted Bohemian pilsner malt
5lb Viking Vienna malt

Oh, and a copy of Randy Baril's "Hosting Cask Ale Events"
Short book but a good primer on all things related to cask ale.
