I remember the moment I first heard this song. Enlisted mens club, Parris Island SC. Playing pool. Haunting sound coming from the juke box or whatever was playing the music

First time I heard it was also in SC! Got to see them in 1987 with the original lineup with the Uplift Mofo Party Plan (before Hilel died)... Then again in 1989 with Chad Smith and John Frusciante for Mother's Milk!

Something like 20 years ago, i've found a french website with audioclips from, and photos of jamaican 45's. It was one of the factors of my devotion to music from this Island.

Lately I've found YT channel of the same mamę, and since last sunday I'm all in Captain's rub a dub archives: https://m.youtube.com/@captainrubadub

Missed this until just a few minutes ago. Singer/Songwriter JD Souther passed away yesterday, unexpectedly. He dated both Stevie Nicks and Linda Ronstadt back in the 70s. He also co-wrote several Eagles songs, including Best of My Love. He wrote and recorded the song How Long, which appeared on his first solo album in 1972. The Eagles covered it on their last album, Long Road Out of Eden.
RIP.

^^^Best of luck, stay safe & I hope none of your stuff gets wrecked.

Anyway, this is one of the tunes I've been playing before big storms around here for the last few years. Move the trucks out from under trees, test run the first line generator, that sort of thing. At least we don't have to worry about the beer supply, hopefully..

One night in 1969 I saw Grand Funk Railroad and Santana at The Boston Tea Party while blasted on blotter.
I drove my group home west on Route 2 while wearing prismatic glasses and passing everything in sight.
It's a friggin' miracle there weren't 6 corpses on the highway that night.
Got home and put this cut on my turntable while holding on for dear life as the sirens in the prelude blared...

Great story. I’m glad you’re still around to share it. I saw Grand Funk too, although probably around ‘73 or so. Blotter wasn’t involved….at least not that night.

In the Summer of '76, a buddy and I attended a midnight double feature of "Godzilla vs Megalon" followed by Floyd's "Live in Pompeii". It was one of those mutual spend-the-night things where he was supposed to stay at my house and vice-versa. We had dates lined up, but mine got in trouble for breaking into her mom's liquor cabinet and could not attend - so my pal's date bailed too. We drowned our sorrows with a couple 8-packs of Miller ponies purchased for us by an older friend, a large strawberry colored Colombian cigarette, and then, about half an hour before showtime, we each ate a tiny stamped picture of Mr. Natural. Watched the sun come up from atop a VW wagon. Never found my shoes or shirt. "Ummagumma" still gives me the creeps to this day - but this tune in particular will always make my skin crawl a bit.
