AL brewed peach sour. Not too tart, subtle not-quite-ripe peach flavor. Pretty tasty.

It really amazes me how far the state of the art in fruit beer brewing has advanced during the past 30 years. Peach and strawberry flavored beers used to be thought of as unicorn beers, damned near impossible feats of brewing. Now? They're just another fruit beer. It's incredible!
 
Another glass of Steppe Brother Imperial Stout at 3.3 volumes of CO2. Have to finish the keg so I can redo it with changes.

I’m really glad I found this. Sullivan’s Brewing Company, Established in 1702, Kulkenney, Ireland. It’s not that easy finding authentic Irish Red Ales in the US, there are just several that make it this far. Most get hoarded and drank in Ireland I think. Send us more!

Naturally, the next thing on my thirsty mind would be a heads up comparison to one of the more readily available Irish Red Ales here in California by one of my favorite brewers, Karl Strauss out of San Diego.

Drum roll please…….. So how do they stack up? As fond as I am of Karl Strauss, drinking this Sullivan’s beats Red Trolley hands down! A beer metaphor for not screwing around!

So what is the difference? Well, I think the Red Trolley suffers a bit the same issue that many of the domestically produced Oktoberfests are characterized by. The beer is too sweet, it has either too much caramel malt or its mashing schedule is producing a sweeter beer. It almost seems cloying when drank side-by-side with the Sullivan’s. Maltings Irish Ale is a very delicious and drinkable Irish Red – You could really pound down a couple pints of this in no time! Bartender, bring me another! Nice head and great lacing on the Sullivan’s, not so much on Red Trolley.

I feel like the local team just got beat. Nevertheless, I’m glad it was beat by something this fantastic, Sullivan’s Maltings Irish Ale clocks in at 5% ABV as compared to the 5.8% ABV Red Trolley. Still scratching my head on this 14.9 oz can size. Last time I saw an Irish drinker’s pint shorted by over an ounce it nearly came to fisticuffs! No short pours! Enjoy!

I’m liking these blenders quite a bit. Thirst quenching and one heck of a way to extend out the IPA supply!

Today’s blender takes one of our favorites – Bell’s Two Hearted IPA and turns it into a party chugger. One of my daughters is in Michigan this week. They know Bell’s - As a Michigan brew, they’re really excited about Bell’s most days even today in the snow. A great way to make more IPA when you can’t get more on those slick roads!

These super hoppy beers are super easy to successfully modify. This takes a 19.2 ounce IPA with a 7% ABV, cuts it back to 31.2 ounce, (nearly a quart!), 4.3% ABV chuggable brew.

I’m really liking these Bud Zeros – they’re the tonic water mixer of the beer world! This makes this beer so drinkable – similar to Kona Big Wave – a completely drinkable brew but in an IPA format rather than Golden Ale. Try it – You’ll like it!

Just tapped my newest beer, a west coast ipa at 8.93% abv. Hopped with Columbus/strata in boil, whirlpooled with mosaic/strata and then dryhopped with Mosaic t90/cryo, strata t90/cgx, and Columbus lupomax.

The yeast is pitched on today’s ordinary bitter and the brewery is cleaned up. Just one thing left to do today, get 1) blackout drunk, 2) passed out, 3) incarcerated prior to the Niners kicking off tonight at 8.20pm. It's been a lovely long weekend and I'd hate to have it ruined by tonight's butchery.

Carb check on the American Stout I kegged on Friday. It requires some further conditioning time. That’s the final sample of the bitter sitting next to the stout. It'll be ready to roll before the stout hits its prime.

Hung lights outside and drug up the tree from the basement and set it up. After dinner the kids and I will hang ornaments.

I am setting the over /under on broken balls or other ornaments at 4.5.

Until then some egg nog that was left to us at Thanksgiving (thinned out with some bourbon of course). BAH HUM BUG!
