What do you know? It turns out that the Niners can actually kick a field goal if you give them enough tries. I'm on an IPA bender tonight so that I can experience the world as Jake Moody seems to see it.
This is the first pour of my new IPA. It has an early 90's grist of domestic 2-row and C-40 at what today would be called a very modest 1.058 gravity. I used about 1/3 of the C-40 that would have been normal at the time and used a 120min boil to pick up the needed flavor and color, an old trick that still works. Aside from the assertive 120min addition, the hop bill is very contemporary: 6oz combined of CTZ, Centennial, and Citra in the 40min whirlpool and the same again as dry hops. It's a contemporary take on the old classic WCIPA.
Here's the UK IPA that you've seen a million times before--Otter, invert #1, and a heap of EKGs. We need better beer language. These are both IPAs, but they have absolutely nothing in common.
Well it’s been a great 3 days, my beer-loving Dr. Daughter came in to town to check on Beermeister32 and her dear old Mom. Er, I mean Mom! Boy, you have to pick your words carefully!
Coming off a couple noteworthy events - Dr. Daughter hauled all of us down for multiple shots in the arm. Then 2 nights of beer tasting! Anything to ease the pain!
Pain it was too, hot, cold like a flu, then shivering and a day of body aches. Sure is great when these kids come to town! Oh yeah, another beer tonight - a delicious Bitburger Pils! Prost!
I discovered that the flash games I used to play in middle/high school were archived and can still be played. Enjoying a cream of three crops ale alongside.
Crushed a few at Ocean Lab Brewing in Puerto Rico. Blood Orange Pale Ale, IPA, some mixed drink, hazy IPA and had to try the pumpkin from the gift shop.
Packed with flavor, Hacker Pschorr Münchner Gold just might be the perfect Lager. Brewed since the 19th century (1800’s!), Münchner Gold is a 5.5% ABV masterpiece of Marthe, Grace and Catamaran malts and Hallertauer Tradition and Hallertauer Herkules hops.
This is a fantastic drinking Golden Lager, maybe just a couple clicks North in ABV and SRM compared to a Helles, otherwise very similar.
Hop levels are balanced and in check – important to some. While Beermeister32 is a devoted hop-head, I keep getting reminded by my beer-loving daughters that “not everyone likes hops and IPA’s, Dad!" OK, Ok I get it. I love malty brews too! This from a daughter slugging down a Schlenkerla Rauchbier!
Nice head, perfect lacing, this one is really dialed in folks. Enjoyed by our Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandparents! Prost!
Aldi chocolate peanut butter porter. Malty with subtle peanut butter and chocolate flavors. Body is lighter than I like in this type of beer. 6%. Not bad.

Happy Veterans Day! I hope you had, or are having a good one and to all who have honorably served I appreciate your sacrifices. cheers!

Night falls, colors fade and a secretive work begins. Imagine the jungle of New Zealand as a cross section starting with the tail of the Milky Way—bright and frozen in its celestial spin. As we descend through this living roof, hands of all shapes and sizes traverse the smattering of vine and limb. Underneath the roil of life, in dirt as black as night, a crown unfurls fit for a king.King Fern is a Double IPA as robust as its namesake. Poured vigorously, a cloud of white rises above the glass carrying the amplified hop notes explored in our Fern series. Citra swirls with Peacharine, bringing forth character of orange zest and floral summer peach. Following behind, Motueka brings notes of ripe passionfruit and lime to this special blend.

Sherman is our whole cone-hopped rendition of our beloved Red IPA, Sequoia. Sherman pours a mahogany hue with brilliant white foam that clings to the glass after each sip. On top of its rich malty base, a hefty charge of whole cone Chinook and Simcoe brings forth aromas of fresh mandarin and grapefruit zest, followed by wisps of sticky pine resin
This is the beer where I had some extra, unexpected O2 exposure while racking to the bottling bucket. A poor-fitting hose clamp allowed air to be drawn in to the drain tubing. Luckily I caught it after about a gallon and replaced the clamp. Still, there were quite a few air pockets going "glug glug" in the line during that initial gallon.
I always add some ascorbic to the beer before bottling, and hopefully that helps. So far, no notes of oxidation. I might want to drink this up in coming weeks, just the same.
It’s the end of the year review of leftover brews in the beer refrigerator. Look what I found.... leftover IPA from my IPAFest last January and February! Well we all know IPA’s are to be consumed “fresh”, like a glass of Zinfandel or Milk. With IPAs, it's “young and fresh” to preserve hoppiness!
So I blew it. What does a nearly year-old IPA from the temperature-controlled Beermeister32 bierhorde taste like? There’s enough hoppiness going on here that I can’t tell the difference! Firestone Walker, Cali Cruiser Juicy West Coast IPA. Still trying to figure out the “juice”, but the IPA is shining through! Great Beer!
6.6% ABV, hard to go wrong with Firestone Walker. I like this almost as much as their classic Union Jack. Enjoy!
