VB action against Wisconsin. Good enough reason to drink.

So I have some HM rice wine and some Szechuan peppercorns. Both Chinese, right? Let's put them together! A few crushed peppercorns in 50 ml wine for a few days. This is good! Pepper mutes the sweet and tart, adds some citrus. The Szechuan tingle on the tongue is pretty cool. I like it!

Is that new? BA hasn't scored it yet, not enough reviews. Not seeing it in their on-line beer list, either.
btw, speaking of which, how crazy is their adult beverage list now? Holy cow!

Cheers!
Yup
Kind of their Halloween season lineup. Gotta say one of the best brews in the series. Highly recommend

I have their absinthe sitting on my table for the longest time

^Rated "world class" with a 98 on BA^
Love to see another of the many Massachusetts breweries noted here.
We're not just Treehouse after all - though tbh they totally crush the New England IPA ratings on BA 😁

IMHO, Other Half - All Citra Everything, is one of the best top 2 or 3. Although that Equilibrium/Parish I just had was up there too. Unfortunately, we don't get any Treehouse here in Central Texas. I wrote them to put their beers on Tavour but I guess they don't give a $hit about the rest of the country.

Anyway, wife bought some liquor...

Alright all you craft beer and HB snobs – Yes, there was a time when if you wanted to get loaded up big time, you went down to the left end of the beer case and bought the heaviest stuff on the shelf.

Olde English 800 has been around quite a while, and filled that role many times. There were others, Colt 45, Mickeys, whichever lit your fire. Really I didn’t know what malt liquor was. I knew it was vaguely related to beer and it served up a big boozy wallop back in high school in the 70's, but that’s about it. "Olde English, "800" it is the Power!" That jingle still bounces around in my head.

So how does Olde English 800 stack up against current standards?

For one thing, this is a heavyweight – 7.5% ABV, but I think we can retire the “Malt Liquor" moniker. These are basically just heavy lagers as I see it, not English ales. In fact, as a lager, maybe “Alt Deutsch” might be better, (nah, few Murcans would figure THAT out for cryin’ out loud!)

Not really too different from an Export, Dortmunder or one of those Bocks I drank a couple pages back, except for the Corn Syrup. Ingredients are Water, Barley Malt, Corn Syrup (maltose and Dextrose), yeast and hop extract. Funny, the can says they never use high fructose corn syrup! Ha ha, BIG DIFF!

More hilarity – says this beer has 85 calories. He he… but 4.75 servings! Beer Pig!

Well, if I was blindfolded, I’d call it a Bock. This beer has a nice head, terrific lacing, and if you can somehow abandon the pre-conceived notions that this is some Wino or Hobo beer, I think you could get into it. Much better than you might think…. Burp! Enjoy!
