Cascade schedule look ok? im thinking about upping the summit to .75oz. Style guidelines states it should be a max of 70 IBU, upping the summit would put it over but i feel like it needs a bit more bittering to balance it out. maybe just do 5 oz cascade at 15, 10, 5, 0 and up the summit?

Thanks!

definitely think im going to go with 5oz wet hops for all my cascade additions. anyone used carapils and wheat? im thinking its unecessary

I think your hop schedule looks pretty good. Only thing I'd do different is leave out the Summit at dry hopping. Let the wet hops shine.

A lot of the Fresh Hop ales I've had out west always were a little maltier so I'd leave the Carapils in. I used Russian River's Wet Hop recipe last year which had Crystal 40 and Carapils.

When did you let your bines start growing? I cut mine back until 4/15 and I still have a couple of weeks before my hops will be ready. I figured I'd be ahead of western Virginia.

I love summits, but the one place where summits arent good from my experience is FWH. Thats when the onion and garlic notes come out. However, they are my bittering hop of choice. I use them at 60mins in everything I brew including belgians and their bittering is super smooth. I would just switch from FWH to 60 min and you will be fine.

thanks for the response guys. knowing about the fwh is great. ill definitely just do a regular bittering addition with them.

I didnt cut back my hops at all this year. This was not by choice, but just because of lack of time. this is my first year gardening with a child, now 10 months old, and ive found i have far less time to tend to the garden. My cascades are starting to brown at the edge and get that papery feel as well as smell very fragrant. im getting ready to go take some pictures now and cut open a cone as well to verify they are definitely ready to pick.

do you think both carapils and wheat are necessary? ive never used wheat in a pale ale or ipa, but it seems pretty popular to do. ive had great results with a 1/2 pound of carapils in my apa and ipa recipes, but am always up for a change. will post back shortly with hop pictures.
