Do you use a scale? Where did you get it?

Or is there a correlation between volume and weight. For example is a cup of DME = 1/2 pound?

Thinking of buying DME in bulk...

DME volume is not a consitant weight. That dang air gets in the way.

As for a scale, I got a small one from amazon that does grams and goes up to 5kg/11lb. It was similar to this one. I don't recall what I paid. you might need to do 2 measures - if you use a lot of DME in one batch.

I got cheap digital scale (1g/5kg) for all my brewing needs. Works great.

I've been using mostly DME for my latest brews and it will take you quite a while to measure 3kg of DME with cups =)

Pick up a small digital scale from a kitchen supply store (ie, Bed Bath and Beyond) They are cheap ($20-$30) and last a long time. Also great for weighing out hops.

If you cook, they are great for portion control and calorie counting (if you do that sort of thing ever).

There is a correlation between weight and volume, but it is not super accurate. Weight is definitely the way to go.
