First attempt at doing a wee heavy. How does this look for a recipe? It will be 2.5 gallons.

7 lbs Golden Promise Malt

1lb Weyermann Munich type II

0.5 lbs American Caramel 60°L

0.25 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

0.125 lbs Roasted Barley (steeped separately)

0.5 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

0.25 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 20 min

0.25 oz Fuggle - 4.8 AA% pellets; boiled 5 min

White Labs WLP028 Edinburgh Scottish Ale

Any help/comments appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What OG are you shooting for? I think you're close. I'd probably add a bit more crystal malt and maybe a touch of honey malt.

For all Scotch styles you want full Caramel notes!!! So I'd add more Crystal malts, maybe half a pound of Crystal 40L, or maybe less, but you definitely need more Crystal. Nontheless, it seems pretty nice!!!

Here is an updated recipe.

7 lbs Golden Promise Malt

1lb Weyermann Munich type II

0.5 lbs American Caramel 60°L

0.5 lbs caramel 40

0.25 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

0.125 lbs Roasted Barley (steeped separately)

0.5 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

0.25 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 20 min

0.25 oz Fuggle - 4.8 AA% pellets; boiled 5 min

White Labs WLP028 Edinburgh Scottish Ale

Right now shooting for a of of 1.081. I'm still new at making my own recipes, and another question popped up. Is this too many specialty grains? Base malt is down to about 75% now.

I like darker caramel malts in my Wee Heavies. I also try to keep my base malt around 80%. I agree with the honey malt suggestion.

You might consider:
Cut the Munich in half
Sub C80 (or UK C85 if you can get it) for the C60
Sub C120 (or UK C125 if you can get it) for the C40, and reduce to 3-4 oz
Add 3 oz each of honey and chocolate malts
Remove the Carapils
Boil for 90 minutes
